High School Newsletter
We’ve entered that manic and exciting time of year when
everything is coming to a head! This can be a stressful time for
students, as due dates begin coming in fast and often, so it’s
more important than ever that students are getting good sleep,
staying healthy, and coming to school everyday. It’s also a time when we teachers do our
best to get outside and model stress management strategies such as getting exercise and
making space for artistic and emotional expression. Finding success means meeting the
challenges of each stage, and we are so grateful to be part of a community that is so
supportive and loving in this challenging stage! We are grateful to our amazing students for
showing up with authenticity and curiosity every day, and we are grateful to the amazing
parents who are our partners in this educational journey! Happy Spring everyone!
From Lisa in the Math Matrix:
● In Geometry, we have just started trigonometry! Classes are working on
determining angles of elevation, using trigonometry to measure objects that
are too big to directly measure.
● And in Math 11/12, we’re moving into a new unit on exponential growth and
decay as well as the inverse function, logarithms.
From Gabe in the Wordsmith’s Forge:
● In American Literature, we’ve begun our final unit on the elements of story,
such as the setting, point of view, character types, conflict, and character
motivations.
● In Modern Literature, we are learning about postmodernism and reading a
variety of stories that include elements of metafiction and hyperrealism, and
which explore themes of deconstructionism and late-stage capitalism.
From Andrew in the Science lab:
● In Earth Science we are exploring the myriad of events caused by the complex
interactions of the Earth, the moon, and the Sun. From there we venture farther
out into space to examine the life cycle of stars.
● In Chemistry we are learning to balance chemical reactions, finding limiting
reagents and using stoichiometry to predict the percent yield of reactions.
From hadley in the histories den:
● In World History, we are wrapping up a unit on Imperialism and transitioning
into discussions around the first World War.
● In Environmental History, we are beginning a unit on energy (nuclear & oil) and
the hidden systems of electric, & water.
