Popickle Day!
Our 1st and 2nd graders kicked off their celebrations-around-the-world unit with a holiday of their own creation - rooted in design theory, fueled by joy, and, naturally, dedicated to popsicles.
Together, they imagined what our classroom values look like in celebration form: friendship, play, fun, compliments, stories, learning… and yes, popsicles made the list loud and clear.
Thus, Popickle Day was born: a festival complete with popcorn, pickles, handmade complement cards, a student-written song, decorations, activities, and a feast crafted with tiny hands and enormous hearts.
It was sweet, salty, silly, and soulful — exactly the kind of magic you get when children design the world they want to live in.
Here’s to the first-ever Popickle Day.
Here’s to learning through joy.
And here’s to a December filled with celebrations from around the globe.
