Small school.

Big hearts.

Enormous ideas.

Odyssey is a community of learners—small by design, independent in spirit, and endlessly curious. From PreK through 12th grade, we nurture imagination, purpose, and belonging, helping students grow from a strong sense of self into compassionate citizens of a changing world.

Discover education, reimagined. Book a tour today.

Unique Programs

From the hum of our recording studios to the trails of our Outdoor Service Learning program, Odyssey is built for curiosity in motion. Mixed-grade classrooms invite mentorship across ages; field trips weave Asheville into our learning landscape. Here, reading is taught with rigor, history with honesty, and thinking—with independence.

Because each child should get to bloom.

At Odyssey, learning is whole. Guided by our Six Strands—Mental, Emotional, Moral, Aesthetic, Physical, and Spiritual—we nurture the full human being. These aren’t separate subjects, but interconnected ways of growing that shape every classroom, project, and relationship. When students leave Odyssey, they carry with them not only knowledge, but wisdom, empathy, and a sense of purpose.

The Odyssey Way

Expert-led individualized learning

At Odyssey, small class sizes and shared-grade models create space for finely tuned, personalized learning. Our teachers know their students deeply—how they think, what excites them, and what they need to thrive. Academic challenge here is met with care, guided by our Six Strands Framework, so every learner builds both endurance and confidence—and discovers the joy of meaningful work.

The Art of Following Curiosity

A cornerstone of every Odyssey education—beginning in Kindergarten—is the Independent Research Project (IRP). With support from teachers, students choose a topic that ignites their curiosity, learn how to conduct age-appropriate research, cite sources, create visual displays, and present their findings.

This process brings every dimension of a learner to life—curiosity, creativity, focus, and confidence. Through IRPs, students gain more than academic skills: they learn how to pursue their interests with purpose and share their discoveries with pride.
