Measles Preparedness Update

Dear Odyssey Families,

We want to share a brief health update in light of recent confirmed measles cases in Buncombe County among school-age children.

At this time, there are no confirmed measles cases at Odyssey School. We are sharing this information to keep families informed and to reinforce our existing health and attendance expectations.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness that spreads through the air and can remain in a space for up to two hours after an infected person leaves. Early symptoms often include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, followed by a rash that typically begins on the face and spreads downward.

What Families Should Do

  • Please keep your child home and notify the school if they have:

    • Fever with a rash

    • A new rash following fever or cold-like symptoms

  • Inform the school promptly if your child is diagnosed with measles or has a known exposure.

School Preparedness

Odyssey School follows State law with respect to communicable diseases. We work closely with local public health officials and follow all guidance regarding communicable diseases. If a case were identified within our community, we would follow required public health protocols, including contact notifications and any necessary exclusions, to protect students and staff.

We appreciate your partnership in helping keep our community healthy. If you have questions about your child’s health or attendance, please reach out to Liz Lesley or Anne Tomlanovich.

Warmly,

Odyssey School Administration
