Head of School letter, week of October 12

What a glorious autumn weekend we’re having! The sunshine, crisp air and changing leaves feel like a gift - how lucky are we to experience this change of season in such a beautiful part of the world?!

Elders Day is this Thursday, and we are so excited to welcome Odyssey elders to our school. This is such a special tradition–a designated time and space for us to recognize the wisdom and agency of our family and friends with more experience in life. In a world that seems to be rushing forward without an anchor, staying grounded with those who came before us is another way to raise whole children and maintain our extended community.

This coming Friday through Monday is also Fall Break. One thing that we shared at our recent board retreat is that Fall Break was purposely scheduled years ago to coincide with the Fall LEAF Global Arts Festival. This was not something most of the Board members knew and it is likely news for many members of our community. Under the leadership of Music Director Agustin Palomo Ramos, this year we have reconnected with the Festival. This week, middle school students are studying with teaching artists and will be performing at the Festival Saturday at noon. In the Spring, High School and the 3-4 class will have a similar opportunity. The missions of Odyssey and LEAF are complimentary and we invite you to attend and celebrate 30 years of LEAF.

With Gratitude,

Anne and Peter
