5/6 Newsletter - March 4, 2026

Classes recently~

Math 5 & 6: Topics: spiraling math topics in all areas of math, on grade level + review of previous years in geometry, measurement & data, number & operations- base 10 & fractions, and operations & algebraic thinking. Multiplication fact fluency update... students are practicing with their flashcards about twice a week now.

Science 5: Fifth graders have been studying all about weather- clouds, wind, high and low pressure, jet stream and more. Soon, they will begin a project that entails interviewing one aspect of weather, becoming the ‘voice’ of hail (for example)

Science 6: Sixth graders have just completed the unit on waves and are just beginning their study of earth’s interior.

Language Arts 5 & 6: Previously, students revised writing through self-editing and integrating peer feedback. They have finished rough drafts and are now working on final copies of IRP essays.

Social Studies 5 & 6: Wrapped up/paused American Revolution and Ancient Greece units for more IRP time. Will begin analyzing important speeches from history and implementing presentation strategies as students plan and rehearse their oral presentations for IRP.
