Current Positions: 

Director of Programming (Asheville)

This position is year-round beginning on July 10, 2023. The salary range is $49,000 to $57,000 per year depending on experience level. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of (5) years of experience working in a school setting. This candidate will have practical experience in the management of people, calendars, deadlines, systems checks, scheduling, and holding people accountable. This person is goal-oriented and organized. The ideal candidate will be able to map out the year(s) ahead, ensuring that the bird’s-eye view is considered when representing the programs of Odyssey School.

DUTIES

  • Problem-Solving/Communication/Planning/Management~
  • Operations: implement logistics that support the goals and plans of all programs
  • Serve as the high school director
  • Support all programs in the creation of curricular schedules
  • Accurately represent all programs in the weekly administrative meeting
  • Organize in-service professional development training in tandem with other directors
  • Organize and facilitate biweekly (every other week) all-program directors’ meetings using shared agenda
  • Act as an organizer and staff member for any program on an as-needed basis
  • Support the rationale and planning of Student trips (international or otherwise)
  • Organize and facilitate weekly staff meetings
  • Ensure that staff complies with handbook policies and procedures, i.e. conference summaries, supporting their work in professional development, and such, on time, and with quality
  • Faculty performance reviews: lead the end-of-year self-assessment that is reviewed and addressed  by all directors and HoS
  • Participate in your annual professional review
  • Support the Leadership Team as needed
  • Plan the August Program Director Orientation and Faculty Orientation with support from the leadership team (all non-teaching and learning items) and program directors (all things teaching and learning)
  • Annual Parent and Faculty Handbook review (occurs throughout the year)
  • Lead program directors in technology inventory/ working with our CFO, keep our school current in educational technology

SPECIFIC TASKS INCLUDE

Hiring~

  • Organize and oversee faculty hiring
  • Partner with program directors when hiring teachers in their programs
  • Work with the Head of School to make final hiring decisions/ offer positions/ follow through with the onboarding process
  • Update/develop employee contracts, yearly

Testing~

  • Testing Coordinator- fall and spring, 3 weeks each (prepare for testing, implementation of testing, data interpretation/ present to staff and board, sending data to families)
  • Guide testing administrators and proctors
  • Organize test proctors and test spaces for the week(s) of standardized testing, and manage the accommodations schedules

Representing Odyssey School~

  • Act as a secondary administrator, alongside leadership team members, when the HoS is away/off campus
  • Represent Odyssey Administration at events when necessary
  • Attend board meetings year-round; write a portion of monthly reports to the board, assist with governance, represent all programs
  • Foster programming partnerships
  • Communicate with families via email, text, and in-person or virtual meetings on topics regarding programming
  • Attend community events, such as the start of year informational parent gatherings, festivals, fundraisers and auctions

High School Math Teacher (Asheville)

Odyssey High School weaves threads of experiential learning, outdoor education, design thinking, and project-based learning, with a strong emphasis on building citizenship through community. The start date is August 7, 2023.

A secondary math teaching license is required, in addition to a strong desire to work, learn, and teach in a creative, student-centered, and dynamic community. Candidates should be comfortable with Algebra 1 through Calculus, as preps vary from year to year. This is also a homeroom position, with the opportunity to mentor a small number of students, as well as incorporate your hobbies, passions, and other skills in designing elective courses. Homeroom teachers work together to schedule outdoor and service learning trips on Wednesdays. Preference will be given to candidates who have a great aptitude for working collaboratively, are committed to strong communication, and are inspired to model essential learning skills for their students. Full-time Salary: $47,500.00 per year

Middle Grades Math and Science Teacher (Asheville)

Odyssey School provides holistic, heart-centered education with an emphasis on strong academic standards. We are a community-centered school spanning pre-kindergarten through high school with low student-teacher ratios (1 to 12). Our mission is to prepare students, families, and educators to lead lives of intention and purpose with an authentic sense of self, and we invite teachers to deepen their practice, connect with their peers, and guide our students in developing a lifelong love of learning.

We have a homeroom position open in Odyssey’s middle grades program starting August 7, 2023! A teaching license and at least three years experience in a middle school classroom is required, in addition to a strong desire to work, learn, and teach in an experiential, creative, and dynamic community. Preference will be given to candidates with strength in Mathematics and Science. Strong organizational skills, an aptitude for working collaboratively, strong communication skills, and the ability to model essential learning skills for their students are critical for this position.

Third-Fourth Grade Classroom Co-Teacher (Asheville)

We have a co-teaching position opening in Odyssey’s 3rd-4th grade classroom starting August 7, 2023!  An elementary teaching license is required, in addition to a strong desire to work, learn, and teach in an integral, creative, and dynamic community. Preference will be given to candidates with grade-level experience and expertise. This classroom cultivates a creative curriculum along with strong academics and essential learning skills. Applicants from historically marginalized communities are encouraged to apply. Modeling enthusiasm, compassionate communication, and a deep and true curiosity for learning are essential.

Salary starts at $37,000, depending on experience.

Preschool Teacher (Asheville)

With a start date in early June 2023, Odyssey seeks a dedicated and creative professional to join full-time in our highly regarded pre-k program. Responsibilities include: • Collaborating with teaching team in lesson planning • Documenting children’s developmental progress and interests • Building supportive relationships with students, coworkers, and families • Attending weekly meetings Qualifications: • NC Qualifying Letter (criminal background check) • AA or BA in early childhood or related field, including ECE credential plus 22 hours coursework in ECE strongly preferred • At least 3 years of experience working with children in an early childhood setting • Excellent verbal communication skills

Salary will be $38,766, 35 hours per week, 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

Odyssey Summer Camp Counselor (Asheville)

We seek applicants with prior experiences working with kids aged 5 to 12 in either another camp or in the classroom. Must be willing to work in a dynamic and inclusive team to build a balanced, playful and engaging summer program for our campers. Must maintain resiliency and creativity with a forward approach to physical activity and emotional literacy.

Ideally the counselor would be available for all (8) weeks of camp, adding programmatic consistency and fun thematic activities to the summer.
