Community Service
Family involvement builds a strong community, and everyone has a hand in shaping Odyssey into just that. Parent involvement has always been a vital part of the school’s life, and that has recently taken on a more formal role. At the beginning of each school year, every family is asked to contribute four hours a month (less for two and three-day pre-kindergarten families) to the school community. That takes on many forms, from painting, planting, or building to chaperoning field trips, decorating for an event, or attending class meetings. Parents’ special skills are valued, and we match skills and interests with service projects as often as we can.
There are many ways you can contribute, and below are just a few ways you can put in service hours:
- Join or lead a committee
- Teach a special skill
- Coach athletics
- Drive for field trips
- Organize enrichment outings
- Help with special events
- Get involved with fundraising
- Demonstrate crafting or other techniques
- Help with beautification of our building and campus
If time is an issue, families may opt out of direct participation with a nominal fee. However, there is sure to be something you have to share that will benefit the school. We are a community built on collaboration, not consumerism, and that’s how we believe a strong community is made stronger.
Our students provide weekly service to the school, too. Each classroom is responsible for maintaining one section of the school, even our three year olds, who water the outdoor container plants.
A list of needs is available at the school. Ideas are more than welcome and greeted enthusiastically. The possibilities for getting involved are endless.
