Nicholas Rake

Nicholas Rake moved to Asheville from Southeastern Ohio in 2004. For the last 5 years, he has been freelancing in IT and has worked for several local tech start-ups. He is an avid Linux user and an advocate for Open Source software and technologies. He enjoys taking advantage of the wealth of educational resources online such as MOOCs and tutorial sites. He is currently learning Ruby on Rails with ambitions in interactive web design.

For Nicholas, learning has always been a high priority but teaching is a newfound joy. He has volunteered for two years for Hour of Code and has helped with Kids Code Tuesdays. He is an organizer for the Asheville Makers, who have recently found a location for their makerspace which will focus on STEM education. He looks forward to teaching core Computer and Coding concepts to kids using online platforms and Open Source tools.

Preparing students, families, and educators to lead the 21st century with an authentic sense of self.
