Melody Henry

Middle School Assistant Homeroom, Math & Social Studies Teacher

Melody was born into a family of teachers in South Jersey, so academics have along been her strong suit. She was greeted with opportunities to learn and explore early on when her mother decided to move her family to an intentional community in West Virginia. Flourishing under this upbringing, Melody excelled academically at a young age and was enrolled at the University California Berkeley at the ripe age of 16. There, she began her teaching career as an undergraduate, teaching a writing workshop at the Student Learning Center throughout her four years of study.

Upon graduation she was hired to teach in a small community charter school in East Oakland where she served as Creative Director and helped develop curriculum across multiple disciplines during her ten year stay. In addition to her work at Odyssey, she volunteers as a mentor and teaching assistant at ABTech and UNCA and is a teaching artist for Asheville Writers in the Schools & Community (AWITSC). She also performs locally with urban artists Jonathan Santos and DJ Nex Millen, hosting open mics, and emceeing festivals, including Burton St. Agricultural Fair and Goombay. She resides in East Asheville with her children and approaches her work at Odyssey with great enthusiasm, bringing her unique, diverse background to our skilled team of educators.

Preparing students, families, and educators to lead the 21st century with an authentic sense of self.
