Barbara Esther

Barbara is a certified, veteran teacher, with experience teaching preschool through eighth grade! She has been interested in fiber arts for the last 25 years, having worked with backstrap weavers in the highlands of northern Luzon in the Philippines, where she grew up; woven and taught with her sister-in-law on Inkle looms; worked with a master weaver from Guatemala on backstrap loom; raised sheep and learned the process of cleaning, preparing and spinning wool; knitting, embroidering and weaving.

In 2013, Barbara enrolled in the Professional Crafts program in fiber arts at Haywood Community College. There, she explored weaving structures and design, textile arts, history of textiles, contemporary textile artists, dyeing with both natural dyes and chemical dyes, and sewing with handwoven cloth. During two summers and two full academic years Barbara took additional classes in shibori (Japanese shaped dyeing), woven shibori, weft ikat, silk screen design and printing, and photography.

We are excited to welcome Barbara to Odyssey’s Summer Camp this year!

Preparing students, families, and educators to lead the 21st century with an authentic sense of self.
