Adam Lion

Intermediate and High School P.E. and 3-4 Afterschool Teacher
In 2016, Adam left his small hometown of Ashland, Oregon to attend the University of Tennessee and throughout the years has fallen in love with the mountains and people of Southern Appalachia. He joins Odyssey School after teaching at Nature’s Way Montessori School in Knoxville and is excited for the challenge of working with multiple age groups in varying capacities in his new position(s). He has taught students ranging from kindergarten to college-age and is constantly surprised by their unending wisdom and creativity. Adam holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Southern Oregon University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
Away from Odyssey, Adam focuses on making music as a percussionist and teaching privately. Described as a “wide-ranging artist” by The Nashville Scene and “one of Knoxville’s most engaged and adventurous improvisers” by the Big Ears Festival, his work explores experimental percussion music, new composition, and improvisation. He regularly collaborates with cellist Ashlee Booth as Two-Way Street, an ensemble dedicated to commissioning new work, and with double-bassist Matt Nelson as an improviser. Additionally, Adam has performed across the United States in a multitude of venues, festivals, and universities. His recordings can be heard on the Astral Spirit and Innova labels. In his free time, Adam enjoys long-distance backpacking, trail running, anti-capitalism, and vegan food.
